Mass Technology Leadership Council Urges Congress to Act on R&D Tax Credit
Joyce Plotkin, President of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, Inc., a regional association of over 500 software and technology-enabled businesses employing over 117,000 employees, called on the 109th Congress to pass a seamless extension of R&D tax credit. The Mass Technology Leadership Council is the premier association for providers and users of innovative technologies in the region. Its mission is to foster entrepreneurship and promote the success of companies that develop and deploy technology across industry sectors. Council member companies are research-driven businesses that are developing some of the most advanced technologies in the nation -- technologies that will spur economic growth not only in Massachusetts but across the country. “The R&D tax credit provides our member companies with an effective and proven incentive to maintain and increase their investment in United States-based research and development. Expanding the credit will provide an incentive for even more businesses engaged in significant research to invest in R&D in the U.S.,” Plotkin said. She pointed out that continued growth of our economy is inextricably tied to the ability of companies to make a sustained commitment to long-term research. “We should be doing everything we can to foster innovation and U.S.-based research, particularly in IT which is critical to the growth of so many industry sectors,” Plotkin said. Plotkin urged Congress to act on this critical piece of unfinished business and send to President Bush as soon as possible a seamless extension of a strengthened R&D tax credit.
