Mr. Steven SchmidtSVP & CIO, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. As Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer of Information Systems at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Steve Schmidt leads the harmonization and integration of systems and information among Discovery, Development, Commercialization and general administration in Vertex's evolving regulatory and business environment. He also has global responsibility for setting Vertex's computer hardware and software systems strategies, goals, and standards. During his career in Information Systems, Steve has developed product concepts into tools that answer the questions of scientists, patent attorneys, clinicians and business professionals. Most recently he has led the ongoing development of numerous R&D productivity tools at Vertex that help scientists improve daily work processes. These tools include process optimization applications, lab automation and study management tools ranging from systems biology profiling for research through e-submissions for regulatory filings. In addition, Vertex’s internally developed suite of discovery informatics tools won the Best Practices award from Bio-IT World in 2003. Steve joined Vertex in 1997 from Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, where he served as Director, Preclinical Scientific Computing. Steve received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and an M.S. in chemistry from San Diego State University. He has over 26 years of experience in various roles in the Pharamattical industry. |
