COUNCIL TRUSTEES
Ms. Joanna Young
Since graduating from UNH in 1987, Joanna spent her professional career (1988-present) with Liberty Mutual Group, beginning as a Technical Writer/Human Factors Analyst/Project Manager and rising steadily through the ranks to Senior Vice President and CIO for Corporate Systems and Shared Services. In this role, she was responsible for an annual budget of $60M and had over 300 people reporting to her.
Her IT portfolio included all corporate functions (legal, financial, compliance, and human resources), shared services including business-to-business, content and document development, and enterprise systems (domestic and international). Across her portfolio she focused on continuous improvement, developing metrics and measures to evaluate efficiency and outcomes.
Her other executive role at Liberty Mutual Group was Vice President and Manager for Customer Support Services, which included responsibility for two departments within IT: professional services for the infrastructure department and end-user computing environment for a PC fleet of 40K+ and 1100+servers, in over 600 locations.
In her first broad range IT assignment, Joanna was project manager for enterprise-wide Windows 95 training rollout for 20,000 personnel in 600+ offices as Liberty Mutual migrated from a Macintosh/Terminal to a Windows/Intel environment.
Joanna has strong ties to UNH - she is a graduate of UNH, she is a season ticket holder to Wildcat hockey, and she is an occasional lecturer in the business school. Through these connections she has developed several ideas about the strategic use of IT at the University.
Joanna resides locally with her husband Darren, their daughters, a golden retriever and two cats.
