Energy/IT Cluster OverviewInformation technology plays a critical role in the energy sector. The Energy Cluster will explore topics including the different issues faced by aging utilities compared to innovators, the different IT opportunities, long-term versus short-term issues, areas being addressed by others, and the partnership opportunities these represent. This cluster offers a unique value proposition, first as a place where users of energy IT from different energy sectors can collaborate, and second, as offering the ability to bring these potential customers into academic research centers. The exchange of ideas and experience among these audiences is extremely valuable and should lead to great opportunities for all involved. IT is the infrastructure that supports Continuity, Research, Efficiency, and Functionality There is no Clean Tech without Info Tech: • Energy IT is the foundation for enhanced communication, control, reports, visibility and other aspects that the industry relies on for delivery and innovation • IT allows change without disruption • IT provides the basic tools of clean tech and energy research • Energy efficiencies rely on IT • Real time demand management and other customer-facing interactions rely on IT We agreed that while keeping in mind the long-term steps towards the goal of an energy internet, we want some rapid successes, and want to reflect that in our programming. We chose the topic of Cooling the Data Center for our first event.
