A Glimpse over the Horizon

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, you are invited to join us for an exclusive half day retreat designed to inspire and inform MassTLC member executives with an "over the horizon” view of the most innovative technologies, applications, and business models, and their potential impact on the business and social landscape of tomorrow. This executive summit offers thought-provoking content to help inspire long-term strategic thinking as well as peer networking with other leaders from across the region’s technology community. The summit is by invitation only.

ACT 1 - The Future of Urban Mobility 
Daniela Rus, Director of CSAIL, MIT

Daniela Rus is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. Rus is the first woman to serve as director of CSAIL, and its predecessors the AI Lab and the Lab for Computer Science. She also leads CSAIL’s Distributed Robotics Laboratory. Her research interests include distributed robotics, mobile computing and programmable matter. At CSAIL she has led numerous groundbreaking research projects in the areas of transportation, security, environmental modeling and monitoring, underwater exploration, and agriculture. She is the recipient of the NSF Career Award and an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow.


ACT 2 - Visualizing the Future with Online Data
Christopher Ahlberg, CEO, Recorded Future

Dr. Christopher Ahlberg is the CEO of Recorded Future, Inc., and is an independent director of Hult International Business School (Education), Apptus AB (Software), and Fina Technologies (Hedge fund), and advises a series of start-up companies. Earlier Ahlberg was the president of the Spotfire Division of TIBCO, which he founded as an independent company in 1996 and in 2007 sold to TIBCO (Nasdaq: TIBX) for $195M in cash. Spotfire was founded based on his ground-breaking research on information visualization. Dr. Ahlberg was named among the World’s Top 100 Young Innovators by Technology Review, MIT’s Magazine of Innovation in 2002.

ACT 3 - Patients Redefining Healthcare in 2020
David Judge, MD, Director, Ambulatory Practice of the Future, Center for Integration of Medicine & Innovative Technology

David C. Judge, MD, heads the CIMIT Ambulatory Practice of the Future Project. Dr. Judge holds the academic title of Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and is the Assistant Medical Director of the Bulfinch Medical Group at MGH. A strong interest in improvement and innovation in delivery of care has led Dr. Judge to be actively involved in efforts to bring important operational and systems innovations to ambulatory medicine. Dr. Judge received his BA from Brown University, his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts, and performed his residency in internal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian in New York.


ACT 4 - Empowering the Next Billion
Nathan Eagle, CEO, JANA

Nathan Eagle is the CEO of JANA and holds faculty appointments at MIT, Harvard, and Northeastern University. His research involves engineering computational tools, designed to explore how the petabytes of data generated about human movements, financial transactions, and communication patterns can be used for social good. His PhD on Reality Mining was declared one of the '10 technologies most likely to change the way we live' by the MIT Technology Review. Recently, he was named one of the world's top mobile phone developers by Nokia and also elected to the TR35. His academic work has been featured in Science, Nature and PNAS, as well as in the mainstream press.
