Kathy Tzeng, PhD
Dr. Kathy Tzeng is a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM, where she is the world wide technical leader for Life Science and Next Generation Sequencing. She is responsible for the strategy and content of IBM's Life Sciences application plans, portfolio and product positioning. Since Dr. Tzeng joined IBM in 2001, she has been working on enablement and performance optimization of Life Science applications and serves as a Life Science technical advisor. She has been a core team member in several IBM AoT (Academy of Technology) studies, including the recent Genomics Medicine Initiative. She also published IBM Redbook, technical papers, chapters in CRC books as well as peer-reviewed journals such as Genetics, PNAS, Journal of Virology and Parallel Computing. Dr. Tzeng received her Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Pathology from Iowa State University. Before joining IBM, Dr. Tzeng was a Senior Analyst in Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where she led several drug discovery projects in the area of bioinformatics, proteomics and genomics.
As COO of Zato Inc. (www.zatohealth.com), Paul McOwen leads Zato’s strategic business development efforts in healthcare for government and commercial sectors. Zato’s integrated software platform for interoperability uses advanced techniques for cooperative computing and information fusion, integrated with a comprehensive medical ontology to deliver secure search, analysis, extraction, navigation, discovery, and alerts in parallel across diverse application data silos in different data centers of different organizations at massive scales over multiple networks simultaneously. Paul has held executive leadership positions for over 20 years in the vanguard of information technology research, innovation, and the deployment of analysis and discovery solutions across massive structured databases and text-rich descriptive data sets – connecting ‘stovepipes’ securely from ‘a single pane of glass.’ Paul had lead roles in creating, funding, and administering an 8-year National Science Foundation research center to invent and test more intelligent health care information solutions. He has licensed and managed enabling information sharing solutions for massive scale with federal agencies and fortune 500 companies.
Dr. John Holbrook
President and CEO, Zato, Inc. Dr. Holbrook has nearly 40 years experience in clinical medicine, hospital administration, and medical informatics. He served as Vice President of Medical Affairs at the Mercy Medical Center for five years where he started the first modern hospitalist service in the United States. John has worked extensively in software design for hospital administration, practice management and bioterrorism surveillance. He has developed multiple applications for medicine, including natural language processing, speech recognition, and documentation systems.
Sid Vemuganti is a Certified Linux Technical Sales Specialist with over 10 year experience in the UNIX market. He spent 10 years in POWER systems development in Austin, Texas with a focus on pre and post silicon validation of the POWER microarchitecture, most recently working on the POWER7+ microprocessor and the POWER 750, 770, 780 and 795 systems. In additon to functional verification he has does performance analysis and tuning of HPC life sciences applications on POWER systems and has several publications to support this work. His current duties includes pre sales support of Linux on POWER solutions with a focus on the healthcare industry and recruiting healthcare ISV's to run on Linux on POWER . He holds a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa.
