Following the lead of President Obama’s Open Data Executive Order, state and city governments are opening up vast troves of data in the hopes of increasing transparency, value creation, and ultimately more business opportunities and jobs. According to McKinsey’s report on Open Data, an estimated $3 trillion in annual economic potential can be seen across several key industries. Additionally, they site that open data has and will continue to help businesses “raise productivity and create new products and services.”

In a similar vein, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is launching a state open data portal to support the incredible array of diverse public data sets which Commonwealth agencies and cities like Boston produce. Together with the Commonwealth's Office of Government Innovation Officer, we invite big data innovators, software developers, and any technologist interested in having a voice to join key state and city officials as we explore opportunities to build commercial services, applications, and other civic innovations using public data to better serve constituents.

We look forward to being at the forefront of identifying opportunities and connecting the players who are ready and able to take action.
