THE HYBRID WORKFORCE: A UNIFYING APPROACH TO MANAGING CONTINGENT WORKERS AND EMPLOYEES

Webinar

June 1, 2016 @12:30pm-1:30pm

While employees are the mainstay of most companies’ activities, it is increasingly common for a workforce to include a multi-faceted group of other workers. Consultants, independent contractors, subcontractors, temporary or outsourced workers, freelancers and gig workers are all providing services to companies. In that sense, they are like employees. But workers in the contingent categories – outside of the conventional and the legal definition of employment – are subject to different rules and expectations, and so are the companies that engage them.

This webinar will address an often-overlooked business challenge: How to manage the whole workforce, both employees and contingent workers, in an effective and compliant way. The goal is to help attendees minimize confusion, uncertainty and legal exposure in their companies, and to avoid the inefficiencies of duplicated efforts. A company’s relationships with contingent workers may spring up through ad hoc channels, outside the reach or even the knowledge of the HR/Human Capital/Talent department. Sometimes, transparency and uniformity around contingent works is antithetical to the very reason for hiring contingent workers, i.e. to circumvent budget limits or employer obligations. But a patchwork of contingent workers and employees inevitably creates friction within a company. On day-to-day issues like workplace behavior or dress and invitations to the holiday party, and on higher-level concerns like risk management and data security, companies need guidance. Attendees will leave better equipped to manage a workforce comprised of both contingent workers and employees.
