How NewCo Boston Helped Carbonite Land a Great Hire

Talent is the biggest constraint to growth in the tech industry and Boston’e educational ecosystem is a great source of amazing talent. But all too often, students don’t get connected to our great local companies and leave the area. This is a missed opportunity for the tech community as well as for the students.

NewCo Boston is essentially a giant open house for the tech community on a regional scale. Each year 85+ tech companies open their doors and invite the community in to see what is happening inside the local tech scene. They showcase their vision, technology, and culture, in hopes of getting more exposure, meeting a partner, finding an investor, or making that key hire.

Bing Peng attended the inaugural NewCo Boston festival in 2016. She was finishing up her MBA at the Simmons School of Management, after having participated in an Education First (EF) Pre-MBA program. Cambridge-based Education First is a 2017 NewCo Boston host company.

In a “Where are they now?” Q&A on the Simmons website, Bing remarked that, “I am very enthusiastic about high-tech and new technology, and have been in this industry for 7+ years.” She attended the 2016 NewCo session at Boston-based Carbonite and struck up a conversation that led to an interview and ultimately landed her a job as Product Marketing Manage. “Carbonite is a great place to work,” she continues, “and it offers me great resource and opportunity to learn and practice my skills.”

With the ability to get inside ten tech companies over two days and participate in tech meetups at the end of each day, NewCo Boston is a fantastic way to tap into the pulse of tech and get plugged into the local tech scene. And, you might just make that new connection that leads to something transformative.
