MassTLC Releases Consumer Tech in MA Report

Amidst the Q4 consumer shopping season MassTLC released a new report, Consumer Tech in Massachusetts: Seizing the Opportunity for Growth, highlighting new insights into our vibrant business-to-consumer (B2C or “consumer tech”) community and demonstrating that Massachusetts has the talent, capital, and supportive ecosystem needed to start consumer tech businesses and grow them to scale.

Consumer tech is a global and highly competitive sector. To thrive, companies in this sector need access to many of the resources that are present in Massachusetts, such as talent, capital, expertise on the latest technologies, and an attractive lifestyle for employees. Perhaps the most important ingredient for continued expansion of this sector is our ability to further attract and retain world-class talent — both consumer-specific and general tech talent.

Consumer Technology Report

This 40-page report defines consumer technology, establishes a sector taxonomy, profiles 85 consumer tech businesses, and features interviews with six local leaders — Carbonite President & CEO Mohamad Ali, iRobot Chairman, CEO & Co-Founder Colin Angle, TripAdvisor CEO Steve Kaufer, Wayfair CEO & Co-Founder Niraj Shah, Care.com Founder, Chairwoman & CEO Sheila Lirio Marcelo, and DraftKings CEO & Co-Founder Jason Robins — on topics such as the state of consumer tech in Massachusetts, why companies are choosing the Commonwealth, and what’s needed for continued growth of the sector. These CEOs also share their advice with consumer tech entrepreneurs as they will be tomorrow’s leaders.
