PTC’s Jim Heppelmann Talks Augmented Reality in HBR

The technology of augmented reality (AR) is still in its infancy, but as it develops and gains traction, it’s poised to revolutionize organizations in virtually every industry — and sooner than we think, believes PTC CEO, Jim Heppelmann. The business implications for such a change? They’re enormous.

Heppelmann, MassTLC’s 2015 CEO of the Year and a globally recognized thought leader in AR and IoT, recently co-authored with Harvard Business School Professor, Michael Porter, a comprehensive report on navigating AR for business. The report, which appears in the November/December issue of Harvard Business Review, is titled A Manager’s Guide to Augmented Reality: Why Every Organization Needs an Augmented Reality Strategy.

Drawing on Heppelmann’s extensive experience in this emerging field, the report details not only what AR is, but also how it can be applied and why it matters. All of these are illustrated in a case study of one company’s direct experience with AR.

PTC and Heppelmann have showcased their cutting-edge AR technology at past MassTLC events, and it truly is incredible. As an early believer in AR’s industrial applications, PTC has paved the way for the technology’s evolution, now and in the future, putting Massachusetts on the map when it comes to AR.
