Announcing the Technovation Semi-finalists

Technovation is an international program that teaches mobile app development, entrepreneurship, and community engagement to girls aged 10 to 18. MassTLC’s Education Foundation hosts the MA/RI regional competition round, which culminates in a showcase that brings together those teams that would like a chance to present and pitch their original and innovative ideas in-person to the community.

This year, the May 11th showcase poster session saw 25 teams (3 from the junior division, 22 from the senior group) demonstrate their apps and all of the supporting work to the dozens of judges in attendance. The five top scoring senior division teams and the top two junior division teams were selected to pitch in front of the audience of approximately 150 people and a panel of four distinguished industry judges.

The top finisher from the juniors was Match Unlimited, whose app matches donors with food banks. Among the seniors, NSHS Thursday came in third with their app, AinD, which aims to help victims of natural disasters with offline communication; Nedlam, with MyHSOnline, which curates information about school and community activities for students, came in second; and Altera Design came in first for TMPRTR, an app equipped with hardware that monitors the safety of both pets and infant while they are inside a car.

Altera Design, Nedlam, and NSHS Thursday will go on to the global semi-final round, which will be judged virtually by experts from all over the world. Top scorers from that round will go on to the World Pitch Summit in San Jose, CA, in August.
