The MassTLC Tech Top 50 celebrates tech companies and leaders across the region who have made a significant impact in the community during the past 12 month. Forty-nine honorees were chosen across these categories, with the final recognition, the Mosaic Award, given to Chevalier “Chevy” Cleaves, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer of MIT Lincoln Laboratory, for his work creating access and opportunity for future leaders. Describe the pivot/transformation that led to the Tech Top 50 recognition.
When COVID-19 began, athenahealth built and launched a telehealth solution that is fully integrated with the athenaClinicals EHR to enable practitioners to easily conduct telemedicine visits that comply with HIPAA. athenahealth accomplished this in just eight weeks and as a no-cost service through February 2021. By leveraging a world-class development team and a nimble, SaaS-based platform, athenahealth quickly developed an integrated telehealth workflow for providers and an easy-to-use platform for patients.
What impact did the pivot/transformation have?
Our telehealth solution helps both our patients and our providers. For patients, it’s easy to join these calls from any computer or mobile device with a modern web browser and integrated camera; no additional software downloads or integration are required, and patients can schedule appointments through email or text message. Additionally, up to four individuals can join an athenaTelehealth visit, enabling additional care team members, family, or caretakers to participate. For providers, athenaTelehealth is fully integrated into athenaOne and facilitates everything from scheduling to the full telehealth video encounter, where they can document and complete orders, and streamline billing, without disruption to their normal workflow or focus on the patient.
