Cengage Hosts NewCo Innovation Session for Boston Community

For the third consecutive year, Cengage opened its doors to Boston’s innovation community for the annual NewCo festival, which provides an inside look at local organizations driving purposeful transformation in their industries.

Welcoming Boston’s Innovation Community

George Moore, Chief Technology Officer, welcomed attendees and provided a brief overview of the company’s credo and an introduction to Cengage Unlimited, the first-of-its-kind digital subscription service for higher education materials.

The session also included a panel discussion with employees, hosted by Jill O’Connell, Head of Talent at Cengage. Dawn Giovanniello, Product Director, discussed the development of Cengage Unlimited and how it’s changing the world of education, calling it “one of the most exciting things” to happen in her career. “By establishing a culture with clear communication channels, employees feel empowered to overcome obstacles together and find creative solutions to the problems facing our industry,” added Dawn.

Ryan Stadt, Content Engineering Manager and a former educator, talked about how Cengage Unlimited combines high-quality content with affordable price points to deliver positive learning experiences for students. Having just recently joined the company, Gary Fortier, Chief People Officer, shared that it was the company’s transparent and innovative culture that drew him to the position, remarking that at Cengage, “we talk, think and act on culture and talent all the time.”

Talent Fuels Cengage Growth

Fortier also added that Cengage is seeking to hire nearly 100 positions in Boston across a range of functions, including: software engineering, product management, learning design, marketing, strategy, finance and sales. The panel concluded with a lively audience discussion about the education industry, affordability, and student success.

NewCo was an exciting opportunity to welcome the local community and prospective employees into Cengage HQ for a first-hand look at how we work. We look forward to hosting more innovative sessions this fall when we move to our brand-new office in the Seaport!
