ChaosSearch: Meet the Tech Top 50 ‘Business Accomplishment’ Honoree

The MassTLC Tech Top 50 celebrates tech companies and leaders across the region who have made a significant impact in the community during the past 12 month. This year, we are excited to recognize winners across 8 categories: Best Pivot to Meet the New World, Business Accomplishment, Company Culture, Inclusivity Impact, Leadership, New Company of the Year, Tech for Good: Social Responsibility, and Tech to Watch.

Forty-nine honorees were chosen across these categories, with the final recognition, the Mosaic Award, given to Chevalier “Chevy” Cleaves, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer of MIT Lincoln Laboratory, for his work creating access and opportunity for future leaders. View the full list of winners, here.

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more about each of the recipients to spotlight their accomplishments and their impact on customers, partners, employees, and the broader community.

Today, meet ChaosSearch, one of this year’s honorees for Business Accomplishment.

What are the accomplishment(s) that led to your Tech Top 50 recognition?

2020 was a breakout year for ChaosSearch. We grew substantially, tripling our customer base and increasing year-over-year revenue by 611% by the end of the first quarter of 2021. We also expanded our executive leadership team – adding Ed Walsh as CEO; Courtney Pallotta as VP of Marketing; Chris Sweeney as VP of Sales; Steve McAfee as VP of Engineering; MJ Langlais as VP of People Operations; and Rich Pappas as VP of Business Development. We’re currently on track to double our employee base to 120 by the end of this year.

With the right leadership team and talent in place – and demand for our data platform growing – we also closed a $40 million Series B funding round co-led by Stripes and Moore Strategic Ventures in December 2020. The capital has been used to fuel continued platform innovation, leading to the addition of SQL capabilities to our offering in May 2021. These capabilities significantly expand the use cases our platform supports to encompass agile business intelligence and insightful product-led growth in addition to log analytics at scale.

What impact did these accomplishments have on your company, customers, partners, etc.?

With these accomplishments, ChaosSearch has been able to support the scale of our proven offering—in terms of people, capability development and overall go to market expansion. We’ve evolved beyond log analytics to provide customers with an easier and more cost-effective way to quickly derive value from exploding data volumes residing in their own cloud environments. We’ve continued to expand our product ecosystem, which includes integration with leading technology vendors like AWS and Google. We’ve cultivated the talent required to drive our platform vision, including preparations to launch support for machine learning workloads in the months ahead. We’re now in the position to truly disrupt the data analytics industry, and look forward to continuing on our current growth trajectory.

What does it mean to be recognized with the other Tech Top 50 honorees?

ChaosSearch was founded 8 years ago in my basement after an idea I had to reimagine how a database should be built to drive better business analytics at scale. The initial idea was met with disbelief, and in the early days, it was difficult to find individuals who were as passionate about the concept as I was. Fast forward, and we’re now being recognized as one of Massachusetts’ top 50 technology companies. It is an incredible honor to be listed amongst other fast-growing, innovative organizations, and further validates our mission to help companies all over the world find, access and analyze core business information.
