The Internet of Things (IoT) ranked at the top of Gartner’s Hype Cycle for 2015 – essentially recognizing its position as the most over-hyped current technology, a position adjacent to autonomous vehicles and wearables. The familiar use-case examples have become clichés: fitness monitors, intelligent thermostats, smart refrigerators, autonomous vehicles and other all-too-familiar devices/machines.
Although most industry experts believe that IoT represents a very large market opportunity, to date many have struggled to articulate a breadth of tangible use cases. Applications – not system architectures – will ultimately define IoT. MassTLC’s soon to be released IoT industry report will highlight those applications happening in Massachusetts and because of Massachusetts companies.
