Since 2015, Bynder has called Boston home. But like many who have come to this city built on a spirit of innovation and progress, our story didn’t start here.
GROWING UP: What is Bynder?
Born in Amsterdam, Europe’s startup capital, Bynder’s story began at a kitchen table when our CEO Chris Hall was talking to his co-founders at Label A, their SaaS development agency. Many of Label A’s high-profile clients were encountering the same problem—the need for a quick and easy-to-use download page for press communications. The lack of such a tool was slowing entire departments who were unable to send huge files to the right people in a timely manner.
Fast forward to 2013 and Bynder was born. Using Bynder’s intuitive digital asset management platform, marketers and creatives at companies like Puma, Spotify, Canon and Aston Martin collaborate globally to produce and circulate company content at the click of a button—all in the cloud. With Bynder, marketers spend less time on tedious tasks like uploading and downloading materials to share with the entire company. Instead, they’re able to focus their time and energy on more creative and strategic tasks.
GOING AMERICAN: Our Move to Boston
As a European tech company, the move to America was no easy feat. Receiving funding from an American VC firm is tough, especially when all of your major competition is in the U.S. In 2015, we chose Boston as our US headquarters, largely because of the incredible talent pipeline that this city has, and have been on an incredible journey of growth since. In 2016, we came in as an outsider and successfully secured funding from Insight Venture Partners (which CEO Chris Hall celebrated by getting a Bynder tattoo). Most recently we acquired one of our largest U.S. competitors, Webdam, which was previously owned by Shutterstock. This acquisition brought together two industry leaders under one roof, and gave us a footing in the San Francisco Bay Area, opening doors to some amazing new customers.
STAYING DUTCH: Our Culture Connects Us
From one office in Amsterdam, we matured to six offices and over 300 employees worldwide in less than five years, a blazing growth rate recognized by the Deloitte Fast 50 Rising Star Award in 2015 and Deloitte’s #23 fastest growing tech company in Europe in 2017.
