The MassTLC Tech Top 50 celebrates tech companies and leaders across the region who have made a significant impact in the community during the past 12 month. This year, we are excited to recognize winners across 11 categories: Business Accomplishment, Environmental Impact, Leadership, Mosaic (for DEI leadership), Social Responsibility Impact, and the Technology of the Year categories: Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Tech, Consumer Tech, Cybersecurity, Healthcare Tech, and Robotics.

Forty-nine honorees were chosen across these categories, with the final recognition, the Commonwealth Award, given to industry pioneer and co-creator of the spreadsheet, Dan Bricklin.  View the full list of Tech Top 50 winners, here.

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more about each of the recipients to spotlight their accomplishments and their impact on customers, partners, employees, and the broader community.

Today, meet Christopher Lynch, CEO of AtScale, one of this year’s honorees for Leadership.

AtScale enables smarter decision-making by accelerating the flow of data-driven insights. The company’s semantic layer platform simplifies, accelerates, and extends business intelligence and data science capabilities for enterprise customers across all industries.

1) How did your CEO lead or support their team in a unique way?

As Christopher Lynch stepped into the leadership role AtScale, the world was turned upside down by the pandemic. This required him to think about how to support and motivate his employees – and lead them through this crisis. Chris is disciplined by nature and recognized that this personal approach – to stay focused during the pandemic and take time for selfcare – could be woven into his leadership style at AtScale, especially at a time when his entire team was remote and distracted by the pandemic.

To help his team stay connected while working remotely and keep physical and mental acuteness top of mind, Lynch implemented daily exercise routines over zoom for team members with the intention of giving them the guilt-free time to take care of themselves, clear their heads, and unlock creative ideas and potential.

2) What measurable outcomes exist because of the support and leadership this CEO provided?

AtScale emerged from the pandemic slowdown with a surge in activity on all fronts – revenue growth, hiring, marketing, and community engagement. The company has been named to Inc. Magazine’s annual Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, for three consecutive years.

This past year alone, the company tripled it’s Boston-based headcount to approximately 50, and hired new Boston-based executives including a Sales Leader, EVP and GM of AI/ML, VP of AI Engineering. The company also unveiled a modernized visual brand with the re-launch of atscale.com in April 2022.

AtScale also launched an award-winning webcast series, featuring panel discussions of industry leaders facilitated by AtScale’s CTO, bringing in 3000 registrants per month. The company launched a podcast series, “Data-Driven,” which is an ongoing conversation with practitioners and thought leaders on the realities of working in the data and analytics field; and a highly entertaining youtube series, “Dataholics,” that explores the sordid underbelly of the data industry.

AtScale also showed a renewed commitment to community engagement this year, as the entire company got behind the Boston-based philanthropy, Tech Tackles Cancer (TTC). The sold-out June event in Cambridge raised more than $350K for pediatric cancer charities including St. Baldricks and One Mission.

3) What does it mean to have your CEO recognized with the other Tech Top 50 honorees?

“Being a part of this year’s Tech Top 50 is an incredible honor. We’re thrilled to be recognized along with such a wonderful group of local innovators and leaders. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners.” – Christopher Lynch
