The International Entrepreneur Rule, an effort intended to make it easy for foreigners to start new companies in the United States, was slated to take effect on July 17, 2017 but has been delayed until March 14, 2018. The Trump administration announced the delay as part of its broader review of federal immigration programs.
Although the administration has left the door open for implementation of the rule next year, tech industry leaders and investors fear that this week’s decision portends the end of the rule. The National Venture Capital Association has expressed its intention to try to educate the administration on the importance of immigrant entrepreneurs in growing the economy and creating jobs for Americans.
